The MAPS shown in the figure below are Veris versus EM38 under very heavy straw and slight soil frost conditions. The EM38 provides an advantage in this case.
The EM38 measures electrical conductivity. This instrument comes from a Canadian company called Geonics and has been in use for decades. The Veris and EM38 can each be used for the same job. Where the EM38 comes in handy is when soil contact becomes an issue. If there is very heavy straw, frost, or extremely dry soils, soil contact is difficult andVeris readings can be affected. The EM38 does not require soil contact and thus will make great EC MAPS even under these conditions. CropPro has both of these instruments and will be using whatever works best at the time.
