GreenSeeker
This piece of equipment has dramatically changed the way we conduct on-farm trials and make fertilizer recommendations. The ability to take NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) readings in the field by simply touching a button is so much easier and less time consuming than satellite imagery. CropPro and it's clients have begun to fine-tune our knowledge of mineralization potential within fields and the contrasts that exist among management histories. The road has just begun.
N-rich Strips and NDVI are Vital
CropPro has used the GreenSeeker on 100's of sites to measure NDVI differences between different rates and treatments and we are impressed.
Perhaps the most useful use fit for this technology is to perform zero-N strips, field-N rates, and N-rich strips along with GreenSeeker evaluation. Some fields showed virtually no response to fertilizer while others were a complete contrast.
Unfortunately, soil testing is still touted by the majority of government and fertilizer industry personnel as the current agronomic standard for sound fertility advice. If your fertility recommendations and/or application program does not include a few on-farm trials to measure fertilizer response then you don't really know what is going on. A soil test is like saying "Ahhh" to the nurse. On-farm strip trials and GreenSeeker evaluation is like a CT scan. This technology is not for the future, it is for today.
