Integrated Pest Management
IPM knowledge has improved substantially in the past few years. From target plant stands to herbicide rotations, a solid pest management plan is no longer picking the cheapest product to control a certain pest. IPM is the plan, so if there is no plan in place then there is no IPM.
Once the plan is in place, implementation of it becomes the next challenge. Perhaps the two biggest constraints to a successful IPM plan are time and high quality, field-specific, knowledge. Farms continue to grow in size and farm labour continues to be difficult to find and maintain. Farm managers are usually wearing several hats, and the time available to scout and monitor every field with detailed data collection becomes impossible.
IPM is easier said than done.
Implement Solid Plans, Regular Scouting, and Sound Advice
In 1997, our first experience with farm consulting services provided mainly field scouting services. Farmers wanted improved pest control. What we found was that in many cases the problems in the fields could not be corrected at field scouting time. Specific weed problems could not be controlled in the crop that was seeded in the field. Disease problems were often a result of poor rotational crop choices, and a fungicide was not going to provide a quick fix.
Today, CropPro is working with entire farms only, and this business relationship strives to provide farm clients with a solid IPM plan. Explore the quick links on the right to learn about many of the components we focus on for success.
Our goal is to put together a solid plan, check fields regularly, and provide cost-effective solutions.
