Fertility Recommendations

A financial planner providing investment advice would make a good analogy with an agronomist providing advice for fertilizer recommendations. Neither will really know if they were correct until the regular ups and downs of the yearly cycle have been completed.

CropPro feels that there is nothing more inconsistent in advisory services than fertilizer recommendations. Like crop variety trials, each crop advisor or company somehow always magically has their approach at the top of the charts.

Unlike others, CropPro hasn't bought in to any specific approach based on a biased philosophy, database, and testing system that promises the perfect blend. Our approach is unique and is always changing to adapt quickly to new research, products, application methods, and technology.

The CropPro Approach

We are proud to be the first consultant in North America to tell our farm clients that we are "still learning" how to fertilize profitably. Why would anyone want to admit they do not always provide the perfect blend?

The answer... we take a very transparent approach with our field check-up program. A large number of fertilizer-rich strip trials, zero-fertilizer trials and NDVI analysis provide a report to clients that will quantify how accurate their fertility program is. A smaller number of annual fertilizer rate trials are also analyzed with NDVI and taken to harvest for yield and quality attributes. This approach insures accountability.

We would suggest to explore the quick links on the right under nutrient management as well as the GreenSeeker and on-farm research  links to develop a better understanding of our approach.

Our approach is not simple. A soil test with a recommendation is simple. We still soil test every field but we implement an elaborate field check-up program to keep learning how to get better.

If you are an advisor or farmer and you are not "still learning" how to fertilize profitably, then you are not fertilizing profitably.
